Logistics and supply chain

Plan freight through Ghana on the record, not on rumour.

Moving goods through Ghana means reading costs, rules and road conditions that change week to week. Anansi profiles five freight corridors with the Ghana Highway Authority's published load limits and weighbridges and the disruptions reported along them, checks a load's size and gross weight against those limits, and tracks fuel-cost drivers, trade data and infrastructure commitments.

Corridor view

See the whole corridor, not just the headlines.

Anansi covers five freight corridors: Tema port to Kumasi, to Paga and to Aflao, Takoradi port to Obuasi, and the coastal highway from Accra to Takoradi. Each shows its towns, the Ghana Highway Authority's weighbridges and the road crashes, protests, public works and floods reported near it, and checks your load's dimensions and gross weight against the GHA's published limits. Bridge and overhead-line clearances come from road surveys, which we are collecting with design partners.

Out of gauge: the move needs authorisation. The Offin crossing is not on record, so survey it before moving.

Who it is for

For teams moving goods through Ghana.

  • Project cargo and heavy-lift firms

Follow road works, incidents and rule changes on the corridors you move through.

  • Freight forwarders and 3PLs

Track the cedi, fuel-cost drivers and trade flows behind rates and volumes.

  • Mining and industrial supply chains

Keep routes to site under watch alongside the economic backdrop.

  • Cargo and transit insurers

Read reported incidents and conditions on the corridors you underwrite.

  • Logistics and warehouse investors

Size port-linked and inland demand against trade, growth and infrastructure plans.

The questions

What logistics teams ask us.

Drawn from the questions logistics operators, project cargo firms and investors ask about Ghana. Some Anansi answers today; the last group is what we are building towards with design partners.

Corridors and roads

  • What has been reported about incidents, closures or road works on the Tema to Kumasi corridor this year?
  • Which road and rail projects did the 2026 Budget fund, and how far along are they?
  • What has been reported about heavy-vehicle incidents on the Takoradi to Tarkwa road this year?
  • Is an 80-tonne load, 4 metres wide and 4.5 metres high, within the GHA's limits on the Tema to Kumasi corridor, and which weighbridges will check it?

Costs and currency

  • How have the cedi and crude oil moved this quarter, and what does that mean for fuel and fleet costs?
  • What is the outlook for inflation and interest rates over the next year?
  • What does a 20% fall in the cedi do to the dollar value of cedi freight revenue?

Trade and demand

  • What does the trade balance say about import and export values this year?
  • How have services and industry, where trade and transport sit, grown over the past five years?
  • What did the Bank of Ghana say about oil prices and trade routes as risks to the outlook?
  • Which of this year's law changes affect hauliers and importers, from the Road Traffic Regulations to the Customs Act, and when do they apply?

In development with design partners

In development
  • Which route should an 80-tonne, 4.5-metre-high load take from Tema to a mine site in the Western Region?
  • Which bridges, culverts and overhead lines limit heavy loads between Takoradi and Tarkwa?
  • Which permits and escorts does an abnormal load need, and how long do they take?

Where Anansi fits

The record in one place, and honesty about the rest.

Route and cost knowledge in Ghana lives in scattered reports, budget tables, news stories and drivers' messages. Anansi brings the published part of it together.

  • What was reported, and when

Incidents, closures and road works reported by the national press, grouped into stories and searchable in plain English.

  • Costs next to their drivers

The cedi, crude oil, diesel and inflation sit alongside the Bank of Ghana's own reading of the risks, so cost questions start from the numbers.

  • No guessing on clearances

The load check uses the GHA's published limits and nothing else. There is no public database of bridge clearances in Ghana, so where a clearance, permit condition or axle-by-axle limit is not on record, Anansi says so rather than guess.

Moving heavy or abnormal cargo in Ghana?

The GHA's limits and weighbridges are already in Anansi. The clearances that decide an abnormal load are still surveyed by hand, and we are collecting them with a small group of project-cargo, mining and insurance partners, starting with the routes from the ports to the mines. If that is your work, we would like to hear from you.
